Blast from the Past Book Tour - 3/9 @ 6:30p

We are excited to kick off the first leg of the Blast from the Past Tour with Cory Oakes and Jo Whittemore. We've been lucky to do events with these two incredible authors before, so believe us when we say, you want to be here!  Both authors have new middle grade releases that are good for 4th grade through middle school, but they have also written YA, so there is something for everyone!

Cory's new book, Dinosaur Boy is one of our most anticipated middle grade books of the year. It is her first middle grade, but is a great story and fun for boys and girls.  Jo's latest release, Colonial Madness, is her first hardback middle grade release and is a fun mother-daughter story.

Come join us at 6:30pm on Monday March 9 with Jo Whittemore and Cory Oakes!

Can't make the event, but still want a book? Order here and we will ship it out on Tuesday:  http://shop.juliesbookspot.com/collections/1050203-blast-from-the-past-tour

Book Drive for BookSpring

We were recently approached by the Austin chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (http://austin.scbwi.org/) and asked if we would help them raise books for BookSpring (http://www.bookspring.org/), a local Austin based charity which promotes childhood literacy.  We thought it would be a great idea and wondered if some of their members would be interested in coming out and helping us.  They said they would be happy to and a plan was hatched.

We have recently created a display of Austin SCBWI member books at the shop and we are working on having all of the authors over for a book signing to celebrate.  You can come in at any time and purchase a book off the display to donate BookSpring and not only will the book get donated, but The Book Spot will be donating proceeds, from the sale, to BookSpring as well.  Then you can also come to the book signing and pick up signed copies for yourself, family and friends!  Proceeds from those sales will also go to BookSpring!

Help us bring the gift of LITERACY to kids in the Austin area this Holiday Season!

Thanksgiving Hours

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We have so much to be thankful for this year, but we are most thankful for the wonderful customers that have made this year our best year yet! We are also very thankful for all the new help we have been getting around the shop. The shop looks awesome and is full of great gift ideas. We will highlight some in the weeks to come, but first we want to let you know about this weekend.

We are closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. We know you will be camping out at the Best Buy on Friday, so we'll sleep in and rest up. On Saturday we will open at 9 am and be giving away 20 of our new shopping bags to our first 20 customers. We are also going to stuff a coupon in each bag. Be one of the first 20 people on Saturday and see what you get!

We have been busy stocking up the shop with calendars and great gift books.  We have also been busy taking half off more than 50% of our new book inventory. That's right, this weekend, you can buy most of our new books at used prices! Shop and save at The Book Spot this small business Saturday!

Lee Bacon - Oct 30 @ 6:30pm

Earlier this year, I got a call from my friend Adam Gidwitz and he said I had to meet this author friend of his, Lee Bacon. I had seen Lee's book, Joshua Dread, around the shop, so I knew about him a little, but this made me pick up the book and check it out.  Right from the beginning, I was hooked.  I passed the book around to a couple of our librarian fiends and they insisted that we get Lee into Round Rock for some school visits.

As luck would have it, he was going to be down in Texas in November and he was fine piggy backing a few more visits, just so long as we had an awesome event in our shop for him.  He is here visiting our schools this week, so now it's our turn to do our part and have an awesome event for him.  Grab all of your friends and come out to The Book Spot on Thursday at 6:30 to talk about Joshua Dread and meet Lee Bacon!
