Lee Bacon - Oct 30 @ 6:30pm

Earlier this year, I got a call from my friend Adam Gidwitz and he said I had to meet this author friend of his, Lee Bacon. I had seen Lee's book, Joshua Dread, around the shop, so I knew about him a little, but this made me pick up the book and check it out.  Right from the beginning, I was hooked.  I passed the book around to a couple of our librarian fiends and they insisted that we get Lee into Round Rock for some school visits.

As luck would have it, he was going to be down in Texas in November and he was fine piggy backing a few more visits, just so long as we had an awesome event in our shop for him.  He is here visiting our schools this week, so now it's our turn to do our part and have an awesome event for him.  Grab all of your friends and come out to The Book Spot on Thursday at 6:30 to talk about Joshua Dread and meet Lee Bacon!

The Great Greene Challenge

Rarely do we see people get really excited about books, but once in a while THAT book comes around.  We're excited to know the author of THAT book that comes out this May... our very own local author, Varian Johnson.  His new book, The Great Greene Heist has gotten the twitterverse aflutter with excitement and the promise of a great Middle Grade book.

There is even a Great Greene Heist Challenge that was first issued by author Kate Messner.  Now you won't see our name thrown around in a lot of the articles about this Great Greene Challenge, because frankly, although people like to talk about "Indie" bookstores, they still love to see really big chain-like stores, like our friends at BookPeople, and often overlook the truely unique mom and pop style independent bookstores like us, BUT HERE IS WHERE WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

We have the best customers in the world!  We have a great audiance for Middle School and Middle Grade books! We can pre-sell and hand-sell a lot of Varian's books.  We can spread the word on how WONDERFUL a book The Great Greene Heist is and how easy it is to get a signed copy at The Book Spot.  With your help, we can make the Top 10 locations of books sold.  Can you help?  Will you?  You can pre-order a copy of The Great Greene Heist at the shop or if you aren't around Round Rock & Pflugerville, you can order online and we will ship it for just $0.99 cents.

Want to read the story behind The Great Greene Heist??  You can here: The Kelsey Job

Finally, late this summer or early in the fall, we will have a big party to celebrate The Great Greene Heist and our TOP 10 FINISH (will we be #1??).  Any spoils we get, we will share at the party.  There is some pretty sweet stuff up for grabs! Share a great book, support books with people of color and a wide range of diversity AND support your local book shop!

Please share!
